5 Ways to Stay Healthy and Glowing So You Can Enjoy Summer

Yaaaassssss! Summer has arrived. I love hot weather. You’ll never find me complaining about the rising temperatures. Even though things are a little quieter for me now that my young ‘uns are broody teenagers, things used to get really hectic around her this time of year. Packing for camp, finishing off the school year, planning our annual road trip….. Plus, finding time to get out there and enjoy the sunshine.

Too busy. So busy. Good busy. But you know what happens with all that summertime commotion? We forget to take care of ourselves. And I don’t know about you, but I have no desire to get sick in the summer. What a waste of sunshine.

That’s why I put together a few tips for you to make sure you’re taking care of YOU when things get busy. You know what they say right? An ounce of prevention…

5 Ways to Stay Healthy and Glowing So You Can Enjoy Summer: Drink!Get Your H20

I can’t stress this one enough, and it’s the easiest to forget. It’s important to refuel your body so you can keep your energy levels up, up, up! And drinking lots of water will keep you energetic, hydrated and cool on hot, humid days. Did you know that by the time you’re thirsty you’re already done for? I find that using a cup with a straw helps me slurp down the water without even realizing it.

Worship the Sun (in Moderation)

5 Ways to Stay Healthy and Glowing So You Can Enjoy Summer: Sun ProtectionOk, another obsession of mine. The sun. I know that throughout the long winter months, I found myself literally craving the warm embrace of the sun. But we all know that too much of a good thing can lead to problems. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but sunburns, wrinkles and sun damage (not to mention skin cancer) are no fun at all. I slather myself with sunscreen, wear a hat, and my favourite sunglasses. I also spend time in the shade when I’m going to be out for a while. During peak times, I head inside to cool off with a nice beverage and some Netflix. Don’t worry, I lecture my kids constantly about the sun too. You’re not that special.

Don’t Forget your Vitamins

5 Ways to Stay Healthy and Glowing So You Can Enjoy Summer: Take Your VitaminsIn the winter, we’re all pretty attentive with taking our daily vitamins. It seems more important during the long, cold months to supplement so that we can stay healthy. Even though we feel like we’re eating fresher and healthier and that we’re more active and strong in the summer, it’s important to keep taking vitamins all year long. I keep Vitafusion™ Men’s Complete Multivitamin and Women’s Complete Multivitamin on hand. They’re a great way to make sure our whole house gets their daily dose all year round!

Stuff Your Face

5 Ways to Stay Healthy and Glowing So You Can Enjoy Summer: Eat LocalSummer is the perfect excuse to expand my diet with local offerings. With so many amazing fruits and vegetables in-season, I’m frequenting the farmers markets and experimenting with all kinds of salads and other fresh dishes. You know I’m addicted to BBQ’ing as well, right? Which means al fresco eating. For some reason the food tastes better when it’s eaten on my back deck with people that I love. P.S. I’m loving the Ontario strawberries right now. They literally taste like sunshine.

Work It!

5 Ways to Stay Healthy and Glowing So You Can Enjoy Summer: Work OutI’ll be honest. I sort of let my fitness routine slide over the winter. It was SO cold, I couldn’t even bring myself to leave the house, even for the gym. My motivation was at an all-time low. However, now that I’ve peeled my layers off, I realize that wasn’t the best idea. Good thing that summer offers opportunities to work in so much physical activity. Walking, swimming, gardening, hitting the hiking trails, playing outside with the kids and the dogs. I’m totally glowing from all the exercise.

With all these healthy summer options you’re going to feel good and look amazing. AAhhh…. I wish summer would never end.

What about you? Got get-glowing tips for me?
