What does summer mean to you? If you said family, food, and fun, then you’re on the same page as me. And there’s nothing I like better than getting together with friends and family to eat al fresco.
A big backyard BBQ is the easiest—most economical, and definitely most social—way to entertain a crowd. Throw some burgers on the BBQ and a toss a big salad. Lay out some toppings and condiments and dish up bowls of crunchy potato chips and you’ve got it going on.
Barely any clean up, which is my favourite part. Grill it up, dish it up, and set it out. Then enjoy your family.
Happiness Is… right?
Last week I hit Walmart for a low-key Canada Day BBQ. My youngest son had just left for camp, and since it was the middle of the week, it was just my reduced family at home. Sort of the best, I think. We don’t need an excuse to sit down to dinner together, but a holiday is definitely a good one. However, I didn’t want to do a lot of work. Like, HOLIDAY? Plus, I’ve been trying hard to be a little more wallet friendly lately when it comes to groceries. My food bills are extraordinary and I’m looking for ways to cut the total without cutting quality.
A little birdie had told me that we should try the Walmart Our Finest products, and especially the grilling food items. And the birdie was right. They were really good. And reasonably priced too (the burgers are $10.97 for 8).
Goes to show you that you can enjoy delicious food, even if you’re on a budget. Who knew?
I loaded up the table with two different burgers, buns, tasty BBQ sauces, a big salad, and amazing thick cut kettle style chips. We whet our whistles with Our Finest Strawberry Lemonade. The whole meal took me 20 minutes to prepare.

I paired the burgers with bbq sauces that I thought would enhance the ingredients. So, I grilled the beef stuffed with cheddar and bacon with a classically bold sauce. And the chicken with monterey jack and roasted red pepper were given some extra sass with a spicy chipotle bbq sauce.
Note: unlike other stuffed burgers I’ve tried, these ones stayed intact. No gross mess all over my grill.
The greatest? Since the burgers were stuffed, I didn’t need to worry about all kinds of elaborate sides. We were covered with flavour so I could keep things simple. I put out a couple bowls of chips: the sea salt were voted best ever, and the jalapeno chips blew my sock off.
Simple burger fixings: old cheddar, lettuce, tomato, sliced onion (red or white), and sliced pickles
Condiments: ketchup, mustard, mayo, aioli

I’m learning that you don’t have to go all out to go all out. I’m liking the new me.
Look for all of these delicious and items at Walmart where food items are sold.
