Motherhood: Where Washing Your Hair is a Spa Day

Motherhood: Where Washing Your Hair is a Spa Day

Life can get really hectic. Between my kids, my dogs, my business, and everything that comes with all of that, I find it hard to carve out a few minutes for myself. Forget lunch with my friends, shopping, or working out. In fact, many days go by where I’m dressed in my gym clothes but that’s as close as I get to sweating.

It can get so busy that sometimes it’s 8 or 9 at night and I’ve realized that I haven’t even had time to take a shower. Stealing a daily few minutes alone with hot water and silence is a dream come true. And making it to the hairdresser more than every three months to get my hair coloured? Well, ummm.. just forget it.

Who would have thought that life as a mother and entrepreneur would make something as simple as caring for my hair a luxury?

I know you’re nodding your head right now when I say that some days the moments alone in shower is the only I can classify as ‘me time’. Perfect quiet, door shut, the isolation of steam and the velvety bubbles of my shampoo as I massage my scalp.

Pure heaven.

This is why I always choose my bath and shower products carefully.

Scent and texture—they’re important. You know, for the at-home spa-like experience. I want big luscious bubbles and a light and natural scent. Since my hair is curly and dry and it craves moisture and softening to prevent frizzies I go for quenching and softening ingredients. Lastly, I need to also preserve my colour. While I’d be happy to wash that grey right out of my hair, I don’t want to wash what’s covering it out.

Let’s recap my ideal me-time (and don’t judge me for my low standards):

-10 minutes in a hot shower

-a spa-like experience

-great smelling products enriched with with natural extracts (preferably that make me feel like I’m at the beach)

-a luxe shampoo and conditioner that are paraben-free and use gentle sulfates (to keep my locks happy and my colour safe) and that moisturize my curls without weighing them down.

Sound like a tall order? Well, it’s not.

Garnier’s new Whole Blends Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner in Coconut Water and Vanilla Milk tick of all of those boxes. The line offers several blends that each focus on a unique hair action, and this one is right for me. I can’t believe how soft and hydrated my hair feels after washing and conditioning. I can’t remember when it looked so soft and healthy.

Never mind when it smelled so good. Perfect relief from this gloomy winter, that’s for sure.
