Set November 25th Aside. It’s Date Night with The Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Tomorrow is the big day we’ve all been waiting for. Yes, November 25th will be a Friday to remember for all Gilmore Girls fans is back.

Why do I care? Well, this is the duo that made me hope for a certain kind of mother-daughter relationship. You know, fun, close, but with a sprinkling of authority rolled in (when I refer to the latter, I mean the mother having authority over the daughter).

Note: The invitation below is what my daughter would send me. I sometimes lack authority.

Gilmore Girls: Date night with Rory and Lorelei

And the best way to celebrate the return of Gilmore Girls? Why a date night, of course. A mother-daughter date night, or a best friends date night or even a date night with yourself. This is Nextflix, yo. You can watch it all at once.

Why a date night with your girl? Well, Netflix did a little research and they found out that TV shows like Gilmore Girls help moms and daughters build a stronger relationship ( I know that when I watch just about anything with my daughter it’s a great bonding experience…)

If you like numbers (which I don’t, generally, but these are about TV and mother-daughter love, so I’l make an exception):

  • 61% of mothers and daughters feel sharing TV shows with each other helps them build a stronger relationship
  • A recent survey revealed that almost half of women (45%) wish they spoke to their mother more often
  • More than half of mother-daughter duos surveyed (54%) report post-show discussions are the best part of sharing a show together
  • Almost half of moms and daughters (45%) think watching together brings them closer

I don’t know about you, but I’m all up in those stats. Except the second one. I speak to my mother. A lot.

Want to do date night like Rory and Lorelei would? We know you do.

Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Brew coffee

Step 2: Get Pop Tarts

Step 3: Get lots of other junk food plus burgers

Step 4. Get take-out also. There can never be enough food

Step 5: Rehearse extra fast witty repartee (did you know that Gilmore Girls had the most words spoken per hour of any show ever when it was first aired?)

Step 6: Snuggle in for some fun

Stay tuned for my thoughts on the show. I know I’ll have them, and I’m sure you’ll have yours. So we’ll have to have a nice chat over coffee.
